Your account and data
What KinNest keeps for you, how it is protected, how you edit or delete it, and how long anything stays.
Your records and documents
Your account holds the information you add about your accounts, assets and personal wishes.
Entries describe what a thing is, where to find it and anything you want your family to know. You can also add letters, documents and photos.
KinNest does not ask for access to your financial accounts or login credentials. We recommend keeping passwords, PINs and other access credentials separately, and recording where to find them in KinNest.
- YESPointers: what a thing is and where to find it
- YESA personal message for your family
- YESOne or two recognition photos per entry
- NOAccess to your financial accounts or login credentials

- NOAny connection to your bank
How your data is stored and protected
Four plain facts about where your data lives and how it is kept.
Stored in India only
Your data lives on servers in India (asia-south1) and stays there.
In transit and at rest
Your data is encrypted on the way to us and while it is stored, using AES-256.
A tamper-evident seal
Every entry carries a SHA-256 seal. If anything alters it, that shows. The seal proves an entry has not been changed; it does not hide the contents.
Strict server-side rules
Your record is private unless you share it with an accepted nominee or the handover rules authorize access. The rules that enforce this run on our servers, where they cannot be bypassed.
End-to-end encryption is something we are building
Today your data is encrypted in transit and at rest, and we keep a firm rule that we do not read your record. We are working towards end-to-end encryption, where the data is locked so only you and the family you choose can open it. We will say so plainly on the day it is true, and not before.
Editing, exporting, and deleting
You are in charge of your record. You can change it, take a copy, or remove it, at any time.
Open an entry and change the note, the photos, or the personal message. There is no lock-in and no waiting.
You can produce a printed pointer sheet: what your record is, who to contact, and your children by name. It carries no asset detail and no phone numbers, so it is safe to keep on paper.
Remove a single entry, or close the account entirely. Closing removes your record from KinNest.
Here is exactly what a deletion touches and what it does not.
- GONEYour record and every entry in it
- GONEYour photos and personal messages
- GONEYour pointers to where things are
- KEPTA record you already handed to your family. They keep what they were given.
- KEPTThe audit log of release events: dates and names only, never record content.
We keep your account while it is doing a job
There is one simple clock. While your account is in use, it stays. Once it has gone quiet for a long time and serves no one, we warn you, then close it.
Your account is kept, however quiet it is, as long as any one of these is true:
- You are using it: opening the app, checking in, or editing your record.
- Your subscription is active or in its free trial.
- You are an accepted nominee for someone whose account still exists.
If none of these is true and there has been no sign of you for three years, we email and notify you two months before we close the account. Every nominee who accepted a role gets that warning too, so nobody is caught unaware. A paying account is never closed for being quiet.
One thing is kept longer, on purpose. A small audit log of what the release machine did — the dates and names of events, never the contents of your record — is held for ten years. It survives even a full account deletion, because it is the tamper-evident proof of whether a handover ever happened.
Your rights under India's data law
India's data-protection law gives you clear rights over the personal data we hold. In KinNest, most of them are things you can do yourself, right now.
See what we hold
Your record is yours to view any time you open the app, and you can export a copy.
Fix what is wrong
Edit any entry directly. Nothing is frozen once you have written it.
Delete your data
Remove a single entry, or close your whole account, whenever you choose.
Ask us a question
You can contact us with a concern about your data and we will respond.
Nominee is not the same as heir. KinNest hands over the record of an asset, never its ownership. Who inherits is for your family and the law, not for us.
Your sign-in and who can see your record
How you get into your account, and how a nominee reads a record after it is released.
